Sol and Mara follow a lost probe into a changing volcanic basin. Compare old crust with the hot eastern rim, shelter from bursts, recover the probe and bring both travelers home. The long ridge and the short vent crossing offer different risks.

Io is the most volcanically active world in our solar system. Tidal deformation supplies internal heat. Fresh flows and deposits renew its surface. These observations do not make individual eruptions predictable clocks.
